A shark named Zorro, who was loaned to the Yarmouth Sea Life Centre in hopes that he would mate is heading back to London this week after his seaside holiday comes to an end.
Zorro, a male zebra shark, has been staying in Yarmouth since April, when he arrived from the London Aquarium to help the captive shark breeding programme. The Yarmouth Sea Life centre is home to Athena, a female zebra shark who is in prime breeding age.
It will be several months before the keepers will know whether Zorro and Athena will be the proud parents of a school of baby sharks, as although Athena produced eggs, it is not known whether they’re fertile.
Zebra sharks are truly incredible creatures, with distinctive stripes and thoughtful expressions. If you’d like to find out more about these amazing animals, why not get yourself a Zebra Shark book which can tell you all you need to know.
