This new year is a special one for St Nicholas Church, which received the honour of the title of Minster in December.
New Year’s services paid tribute to the efforts of community members who have ensured that this church remains at the heart of Yarmouth life.
The Bishop of Norwich, the Right Reverend Graham James, announced the honour, saying that ‘Minster Churches usually possess both great historical and architectural significance’ and singled out St Nicholas for praise, following its long history of civic and community engagement.
St Nicholas’ Church was founded by the first Bishop of Norwich, and strong links to Norwich Cathedral remain. The Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Barry Coleman said ‘I am delighted with the news.
St Nicholas is the largest Parish Church in the country and one of the oldest and most prominent buildings in Great Yarmouth.’
With history-loving tourists drawn to the breathtaking architecture, Great Yarmouth continues to grow from strength to strength.
