Grab your sailors gear and get down to Great Yarmouth this week for the Maritime Festival 2011
If you head down to Great Yarmouth from Today you will get the chance to take part in some superb maritime celebrations. The Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival opens at 10am on Saturday 10th September 2011 and at 10am on Sunday 11th September.
All the action goes down on the South Quay where a bit of maritime everything will be going on. Expect to see pirates, sailors and sea creatures aplenty as well as amazing shows, music and games. One of this years main attractions will be the chance to go sailing on a mighty ship around Great Yarmouth. The times for this are below:
- Thursday 8 September at 7.30am and 2.30pm (both 3-4 hour sailings)
- Friday 9 September at 8.30am (3-4 hour sailing) and 7.30pm (2-3 hour sailing)
- Saturday 10 September at 4pm (3-4 hour sailing)
After you’ve had a taste of the sea air, walk off those sea legs by snaking down on some sea side food and listening to a shanty or two. Maritime music at the festival provides a powerful link back to maritime heritage and tradition. Every year, maritime music plays a huge part of the festival adding to the great atmosphere and character of the event.
The ever popular Hemsby Herring team will be cooking up a storm – what better way is there to enjoy their mouth watering fishes whilst listening to some great live maritime music.
There are plenty of ways of getting to the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival 2011. The train station is a short walk away, as well as lots of car parks nearby. Take a look at the map below which shows the south quay:
