Great Yarmouth Bids a Fond Farewell to HMS Dauntless

After an extended weekend visit, the 7,350 tonne HMS Dauntless has said a tearful goodbye to its adopted home of Great Yarmouth, but hopes are already high for a return visit.

The town turned out in force to welcome the state of the art Type 45 Destroyer and its crew. As part of the visit, townsfolk crowded the ship’s decks, relishing the chance to explore this fascinating piece of living military history.

The crew of the Dauntless even made time to play a game of football against local teams, as well as greeting the town on a 1940s style high street parade. As well as its links to Yarmouth, the Dauntless also has links to the Caister Lifeboat, with the ship’s company regularly raising money for the independent lifeboat which serves the Yarmouth area.

If you missed out on the festivities, make sure you’re in town for the Dauntless’ return. Although this has not been announced yet, we’ll bring you the dates as soon as we have them.
